Founded in 1976, originally as a repair shop, Schecter Guitar Research designed and manufactured high-quality replacement guitar parts, from necks and bodies to metal hardware, finishing up with over 400 components, and even supplying the two big-name brands, Fender and Gibson. It wasnt until three years later, that the first complete Schecter guitar was assembled in their custom shop, loosely based on a Fender design. 1983 saw the company move to Texas with new investors and an apparent mission to move down-market, but by 1987 they were back in California under the wing of Hisatake Shibuya, a Japanese businessman who also owned ESP Guitars. The new owners made a conscious effort to produce high-end, expensive instruments once again, successfully re-establishing the brands original values and allowing them, in 1998, to return to more mass-market production with a range of affordable, but high-quality guitars and basses made in Korea but set up in the USA. ...
