I often find it amusing that the electric guitar was invented to keep up with the noise generated by drum kits and now drummers have to resort to miking to be heard over the guitars! Even in smaller venues some extra help is often needed for the kick drum, so drum miking is no longer the exclusive province of the pro touring band. Unfortunately, if you buy the same mics that the professionals use, the overall bill could well exceed what you paid for your drum kit.
